Why Don't Birds Fall Out Of Trees

Why don't birds fall out of trees when they're sleeping? When birds "sit" on branches, tendons in the legs pull their claws into a closed position and lock the birds onto their perch. When awake, the bird "stands," unlocking the tendons to prepare to take off.

Think about it! Why not sponsor an indoor program at your child or grandchild's classroom?

Subjects include Lenape Stories & Games, Animal Adaptations, Skeletons, Geology, Food Web, and Birds. Each of these programs are one hour in length. A program brochure is available on request or [CLICK HERE].





PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

Ages 2-6. Hands-on fun and educational programs for pre-school children. ADVANCE REGISTRATION & PAYMENT ARE REQUIRED: To register, send title of program, child's name, age, parent's name, phone number and fee to: Peace Valley Nature Center. The fee is not refundable one week prior to the start of the program. Make checks payable to Friends of PVNC. Your payment will secure your place.

Explore nature! There are many creatures and discoveries to make. We will investigate the world of birds, explore animal homes, catch insects and some of their relatives, and wade into the stream to discover who lives there. A story, snack and craft are includED

Class size 5 children
Come out and enjoy spring. We will find animal homes, visit the pond & look for different kinds of birds. The program will begin with a storybook and a snack, then we will journey onto the trails and upon our return you will make a craft to take home.



SUNDAY FAMILY WALKS - 2pm

Join us on the following Sunday afternoons for a walk through the Nature Center' s diverse habitats. Bring your sense of adventure and inquisitiveness. Rain cancels the walk; (contact us if weather appears questionable) NO FEE

CABIN FEVER WALK
March 2 & 9
Come into the cold, get out of the house and enjoy the crisp, clean air of March. We will look for some of the harbingers of spring, such as skunk cabbage, Red-winged Blackbirds and burgeoning buds.

EARLY BIRDS
March 16 & March 30
Spring migration is on! Red-winged Blackbirds have arrived and are calling. Phoebes and Tree Swallows can be spotted perched on power and phone lines. Bring your binoculars and join us in viewing these early migrants.

SWEET SPRING
April 6 & 13
Spring is in the air! The emergence of tiny shoots & buds, frogs, turtles and many animals are now out and about. Join us as we walk through different habitats in search of these signs and perhaps many more.

EARTH DAY WALK
April 20
Celebrate Earth Day with us! Bring the family to discover some of the wonders in our own "backyard". Enjoy the liveliness of springtime. Energize your body & mind and take time to marvel at some of nature' s creations.

BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS
April 27 & May 11
Spring ephemerals are abloom. Search for the fantastic colors of spring. Bloodroot, Spring Beauty, Trout Lily and Toothwort are some of the species bringing the color palette to life.

FROGS, TOADS, SNAKES & TURTLES
The World of Herps
May 18 & 25
Creepy crawling and often scary, these often misunderstood critters are crucial for our ecosystems. We will walk to various areas to attempt to see them and learn about their habitats and importance.
